Reviews
Chastain Park? Not being an Atlanta native or resident, I wasn't familiar with Chastain Park, which turns out to be the largest city park in the entire city of Atlanta. The Horseradish Grill, our choice for this year's Christmas Eve dinner, is tucked away in Chastain's beautifully forested neighborhood in the Buckhead section of the ATL. When I say "tucked away", I mean this upscale restaurant is well camouflaged as an English countryside tavern with a hint of quirky Southern charm surrounded by trees and foliage extraordinaire. A caution: Drive by quickly and you'll miss it every time. The Horseradish serves a full selection of traditional American fare in a cottage-like, dimly lit setting with just a bit of a 1960s supper club feel. We loved it. We shared a trio of outstanding appetizers including the Pan Sautéed Jumbo Lump Crab, the Spicy Jumbo Shrimp and Logan Turnpike Grits and the Crispy Fresh Calamari. All were delicious but the Shrimp & Grits was over-the-top good with its sautéed onions and red peppers. After warming up with a pair of Poached Pear Salads, our entrees ran the menu's gambit. We chose the Sweetcorn Crusted Georgia Mountain Trout, a Wood Grilled Pork Chop, two Double Cut Wood Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops and a Wood Grilled Beef Tenderloin. One family member was enticed to go off menu for the Flounder special stuffed with crab meat. These dishes made the 'radish an outstanding holiday experience. We finished with two delicious desserts including the Chocolate Chocolate Layer Cale and the Kentucky oatmeal Spice Cake. Without impacting my review rating, I owe it to the restaurant's management to call out a few flaws that should never exist in a restaurant of this class. There were several spotlights over the booths that were burned out and the dining room's oriental carpet runner was in desperate need of a cleaning. Overall, we had a fabulous family dining experience at the Horseradish Grill, which earns a coveted 5 stars.
I like the location and neighborhood. A parking lot is adjacent to the Resteraunt. We attended with a large group. Normally, I equate large groups to marginal service - but they proved me wrong! We had a wonderful evening, great service and delicious food. Starting with great appetizers all the way through desert - yummy all the way! If in the area, put this on your list of "must try"
We started with the Calamari, followed by the Grouper and Short Rib, then finished with the Kentucky Oatmeal Spice Cake. The calamari was some of the best I've had. The grouper was excellent and had a flavorful butter sauce. The only thing keeping this from being 5 stars was the short rib was dry and the polenta that came with the grouper tasted like it was made with sour milk. The oatmeal spice cake had a light sweetness that made it a perfect finish. The outdoor patio seating was beautiful and cozy. I did have two ants make there way on to me during the meal, but I suppose this is to be expected when dining outdoors. The service was excellent. I'll be back to try the other dishes!
Horseradish Grill is amazing. We came here for my boyfriends birthday and couldn't have had better experience. We had the hush puppies and calamari as starters and they were phenomenal. I opted for the special, which was the ahi tuna steak - it was rare and perfect. The server was charming, and when he found out it was his birthday treated us to their signature spice cake. Beyond that, I accidentally left my card with the check, they called me quickly and the valet had it ready to hand off by the time we made it back around the corner. The booths are intimate and comfortable, there are a variety of cocktail offerings (try the bees knees!) and a great wine list. We will definitely be back, sooner than later!
Horseradish Grill offers an English countryside cottage feel in the center of Atlanta. It's tucked in behind a lot of flora and fauna and makes for a quaint lunch or dinner setting. I came here for dinner upon a friend's recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed the cocktails and steak.
